Original Oil and Reclaimed Woods collage by Theo Crutchley-Mack

The painting, “Timber Trawler,” portrays a decommissioned fishing trawler at rest on a muddy riverbank. The numerous masts rising above the vessel provided an opportunity to make a striking and dynamic image. I see a strange beauty in the precise lines of decaying timber jetties and the scattered nautical debris found on tidal riverbanks. Delaminated plywood offcuts from a shipbuilder’s workshop were used to construct the textured surface which was then embellished with oxidised colour pigments.
